If there was ever a game in which turning the ball over four times wouldn’t spell certain doom, it would naturally come against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Mountaineers faced just that this afternoon in Morgantown, but still escaped with a 38-22 win over the Jayhawks. Will Grier threw three interceptions at the goal line and fumbled the ball once in a game in which he still completed 68% of his passes for 332 yards and 4 touchdowns. We can talk about Will having bad games, but it’s bordering on first-world problems because he’s still putting up elite numbers.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Mountaineers held the Jayhawks to 289 total yards, recorded 8 tackles for loss and came away with two interceptions in another good performance.
After the game, Reese Donahue proposed to his girlfriend at midfield. Everyone wins today.

Key Takeaways:
- David Long led the Mountaineer defense with 10 total tackles, but this week it was Derrek Pitts that caused havoc in the backfield. Pitts recorded three of West Virginia’s eight tackles for loss.
- David Sills V caught seven passes for 74 yards and a touchdown to lead all receivers.
- Jovani Haskins caught his first touchdown as a Mountaineer on a 14 yard pass from Will Grier in the 2nd quarter.
