The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors’ selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don’t worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.
All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.
We actually filled the first group, so we had to open a second league to fit everyone in. The second league will serve solely as an extension of the first league, and is not a standalone league. If you are in the second league, you are still competing with those in the first league.
Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK

And now, the predictions!
Nick Shoemaker
I predict that WVU will quickly build a lead and this game will be over early. I think the WVU defense will hold Kansas scoreless until coach Gibson calls off the “Dawgs” in the fourth quarter. And this will likely be another Heisman resume building game for Will Grier, if he doesn’t turn the ball over. Mountaineers get the blowout win for Homecoming Week.

Kansas is still Kansas and our guys want to prove that what happened last week in the second half was an aberration. Will gets his 300+ and 4+ and still gets to sit most of the 4th after the Defense gets to wear the Miner Helmet 3 more times.
West Virginia 55 - Kansas 10

Dana forces the team to learn the hard lesson to not let up and replays the Kansas game from last year where Kansas ran for over 300 yards and the score was 35-27 going into the fourth quarter before Grier scored on a pair of 3-yard runs to ice the game. No this game the score is 49-7 at halftime and Grier comes out and throws two more touchdowns after halftime. There is no letdown because Dana won’t let the team get down this week.

Kansas is BACK to the bottom of the Big XII
West Virginia 63 - Kansas 13
Matt Kirchner
West Virginia gets a big lead early and doesn’t sit on it. Even if Dana decides to approach the second half conservatively, Kansas isn’t good enough to take advantage.
West Virginia 52 - Kansas 14
Michael Miller
Will Grier throws six touchdown, Leddie Brown adds another on the ground and the DAWGS score a defensive touchdown on a strip sack. This one will be well in hand by midway through the second quarter, and I’ll be paying more attention to the Red River Shootout by midway through the third.
West Virginia 56 - Kansas 17
John Radcliff
Dana reads a quote of the pregame speech Don Nehlen gave the 1988 team before their first game, in which he reminded his team what great teams do to bad teams. Three quarters of absolute domination by WVU follow, and a fourth quarter where you aimlessly flip channels looking for a game of interest.

WVU rolls from the start and pours it in the the third. KU back door covers after the Mountaineers’ first team sits most of the fourth quarter
West Virginia 45 - Kansas 17

I’m weary of really big lines like this, even with Kansas. The Jayhawks have some offensive talent and have done a fairly decent job keeping opponent scoring down. I think we will have this one sealed early, but KU will get a backdoor cover. I also expect (hope?) the RBs to find the endzone TWICE this game—something we haven’t done against an FBS opponent this season.
West Virginia 40 - Kansas 20

2 wins, 0 wins. It’s still Kansas. If this one’s close at home we’re not as good as we think we are.
