The West Virginia Mountaineers moved up one spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll thanks to Oregon Ducks getting curbstomped by the Mike Leach Washington State Cougars. West Virginia jumps up to #12 during the bye week. This has to be considering #winning anytime you can move up in the polls and not play a game.
West Virginia is one of three Big 12 teams ranked. The Texas Longhorns are 7th and Oklahoma Sooners are 8th. The only other Big 12 team to receive votes are the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who received 8 votes total.

The Mountaineers fail to use the bye week to their advantage in the Associated Press poll, remaining at #13. The Kentucky Wildcats dominant 14-7 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores vaults them above the Mountaineers to #12. Texas, who was on bye this week, moves up to #6, the same position the Mountaineers were before their disastrous trip to Ames and one spot above the Sooners when they lost to then #19 Texas.
