The Mountaineers (4-0, 2-0) are 5-1 all-time against the Cyclones (1-3, 0-2), including a four game streak. When these teams met in Ames in 2016, WVU came away with a 49-14 victory, the largest margin of victory by either team in the series. Last year, WVU held off a resilient Iowa State team with a 20-16 win in Morgantown.
The “Riot Bowl” name came out of the two school’s noted ability to tailgate and their respected rankings as top party schools. While both universities boast strong academics in natural sciences, agriculture and business. The name comes from our friends at Wide Right & Natty Lite, and the gas can trophy followed after.
