The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors' selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don't worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.
All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.
Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK
Our first Pick'Em Gauntlet group has filled up but don't worry, we've set up a second group for those who haven't joined yet. People in the second group will still be competing against those in the first group.

We have 27 games to pick this week, starting with Boise State/UVA tomorrow night at 8PM and continuing through Pac12 After Dark Action on Saturday. Deadline for each pick is 5 minutes before kickoff.
Here are the leaders (Top 12 and ties) after week 3. Congratulations to our very own WVU1996 and TStrain for winning the week with 19 correct picks. (all you win for this is kudos).

WVUNite almost nailed the score last week, predicting a 59-10 WVU win, so we’ll let him start things off this week.

Peyton Bender will be the best passer we've faced to date. Kansas will put up points but Bender can be rattled with pressure.

I’m going to try something a little different, and am basing my prediction off of real numbers instead of what my heart tells me.
Vegas has the Mountaineers as 21 point favorites over the Jayhawks. Bill C’s advanced statistics has West Virginia winning by a 12 point margin. I’m gonna meet them in the middle and say we win by 17.
Peyton Bender is a decent quarterback, and probably the best to come through Lawrence since Todd Reesing. The Jayhawks are looking for the upset. The Mountaineers have sleep walked through the last couple weeks, and will expect to do it again this week. We may be in for a scare early, but Grier & Co. get things going halfway through the second quarter and don’t look back.
West Virginia 41 - Kansas 24
PS: When I’m totally wrong because I tried to factor in what advanced stats have to say, please direct this video at me.

West Virginia coasts to a third straight win. The pass rush wakes up a bit and Tony Gibson's defense finally avoids the big play. Birds with shoes are still bad.

A lot of people think this will be a blowout, but KU has the talent to score points. I wouldn't take the line on us.

WVU rolls through another crappy football team.

It's hard not to predict a 50-something to zero score for this one. After last week's uninspired performance by the Mountaineers, I have to believe execution was the theme for the week. At the same time, Kansas is Kansas and we might be able to sleepwalk through this one. I hate to say it, but it's true. Either way I think we get the same result.
West Virginia 56 - Kansas 0

West Virginia will continue the win streak and start off 1-0 in the conference. Will Grier and the offense should have another solid game and the defense/special teams will probably still leave us with questions going into the off week.
West Virginia 48 - Kansas 14

Four years ago the WVU program hit rock bottom in Lawrence but the rebuild is complete and this will be a solid victory. Grier tosses 3 scores and hits the 300 mark again, Crawford hits 100 on 14 carries. Biggest thing I'm looking for is growth from the cornerbacks - and one of them snags a pick. Mountaineers keep on trucking & head into the bye on a solid win.
West Virginia 44 - Kansas 19

Kansas has a legitimate quarterback and passing game that could make this game closer than many would like to admit, especially with our relatively inexperienced CBs. But our offense still rolls through the KU defense like butter.

Kansas stinks. WVU doesn't. I'd like to see WVU run the ball more, but ultimately, that won't matter in this one. West Virginia rolls. KU still stinks.
