Pick’Em Gauntlet: Week Two Results And Delaware State Predictions

Find out who’s at the top of the leaderboard after week two, and stay for the predictions.

NCAA Football: East Carolina at West Virginia Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors' selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don't worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.

All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.

Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK

Our first Pick'Em Gauntlet group has filled up but don't worry, we've set up a second group for those who haven't joined yet. People in the second group will still be competing against those in the first group.

We have 29 games to pick this week, starting with the Noon ET games on Saturday continuing through Pac12 After Dark Action. Deadline for each pick is 5 minutes before kickoff.

Here are the leaders (Top 7 and ties) after week 2. Congratulations to our very own Matt Kirchner for winning the week with an impressive 23-of-30 correct (all you win for this is kudos).

I had the correct win margin last week after predicting the Mountaineers to win 52-13, so I’ll kick things off this week.

Will we see Will Grier named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for a third week in a row? At what point does he stop being a newcomer?

Grier has another strong day. Sills continues to lead the country in touchdowns. Kyzir White will probably kill another man.

This one, like last week, is over from the first drive. Mountaineers win big.

Will Grier throws for another 370 and 4 touchdowns. Chris Chuganov throws a touchdown. Tevin Bush breaks a long run. The clock runs in the second half.

Don't get hurt, pls.

West Virginia's offense continues to steamroll opposing defenses. Will Grier has another big day with 375 yards and 4 touchdowns. Wide receiver David Sills drops a deuce on Delaware State as he hauls in two touchdowns.

I can't imagine this being much of a game. It'll be important for the first teamers to execute and end it early. Get the backups some reps, etc. You know the story.

I think this week West Virginia continues to show offensive dominance against weaker opponents, but the defense continues to give up big plays. I think this game will be a very similar game to last week. I think West Virginia will get ahead in the first half (maybe 48-7) and coast in the fourth quarter again. So hopefully Will Grier can maybe go for the record book in the first few quarters. I expect a more impressive win to gain momentum going into conference play.

There's really not a lot of narrative to chew on here. Delaware state has lost about a hundred contests since 2015 and looks to be firmly in the basement of the cellar of the broom closet at the FCS level. Conversely, Will Grier and the Mountaineers offense are scoring TD's in their sleep while the defense is further establishing depth at all three levels. If I'm Will Grier, I'm placing a pizza order to arrive around 1:40 PM.

I don't know anything about Delaware State, but I know they're in trouble. BFG tosses a few more touchdowns, Crawford puts up another 100-yard game, and we coast to another easy W. Bring on the Jayhawks.

ECU was bad. DSU is worse. More of the same from last week. Very similar to last week. Rev. Willy G (the younger) continues to impress and David Sills V extends his national lead in TD receptions. Hopefully the Defense can keep up the intensity a little longer this week with no major blown assignments.

West Virginia 70 - Delaware State 6

Delaware State is not good. WVU treats this like a glorified practice, and rolls to easy victory. Dana keeps the starters in for the first half and 1 possession in the second.
