The West Virginia Mountaineers will wear this one-off combination on Saturday as they get ready to host the Delaware State Hornets. The Mountaineers have twice worn this combination of white helmets with the blue jersey and blue pants: 2015 against the Texas Longhorns and last year against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Mountaineers have never lost in this uniform combination.
In 2015, when this combination was first unveiled, the Mountaineers were sitting at 4-4 after enduring one of the most brutal scheduling stretches in recent memory. October 2015, also known as Deathober, saw the Mountaineers face 4 ranked teams consecutively.
West Virginia endured and rebounded to beat Texas Tech before taking on Texas at home. On a day when Skyler Howard only passed for 122 yards, the Mountaineers did to Texas what Texas used to do to other teams. They wore them down with the run game. The 38-20 victory pushed the Mountaineers to 5-4 on the season.
Last year against Kansas, Skyler had one of the most impressive games of his career. He threw for 260 yards and 3 touchdowns while rushing for 64 and two touchdowns. The 5 touchdown performance was the second best offensive showing of the season behind a 49-point outburst against Iowa State.
