The Big 12 and SEC announced the schedule for the 2018 Big 12/SEC Challenge on Thursday.

Among the matchups announced was a game between WVU and Kentucky scheduled for January 27, 2018.

This will be the 21st all-time meeting between the two schools. The Wildcats lead the series 15-5.

The last time the Mountaineers defeated Kentucky was in 2010, when Da’Sean Butler led the charge in Syracuse to clinch West Virginia’s first Final Four bid since 1959 with a 73-66 win.

Next January’s game will also be the 12th meeting between Bob Huggins and John Calipari. Huggins is 8-3 against Calipari, racking up most of his wins when he was at Cincinnati and Coach Cal was at Memphis.

The game should prove especially interesting for Daxter Miles Jr. His words before WVU’s matchup with Kentucky in 2015, lit the fire under the undefeated Wildcats as they trounced the Mountaineers 78-39 in the Sweet 16 in Cleveland.

“I give them their props. Salute to them for getting to 36-0. But tomorrow they’re going to be 36-1”

-Daxter Miles Jr., Mar. 25, 2015

January’s game will be the first time the Wildcats have come to Morgantown since 1970. It was the first-ever sellout at the brand new Coliseum. The fans got their moneys worth, as Kentucky won a 106-100 shootout.
