Jevon Carter led the way with 21 points as 11th-ranked West Virginia defeated Texas 63-53.
Carter’s performance was the headline of the game as he was 7 of 12 from the field (5 of 8 from three point range) and added three rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in his 36 minutes on the court.
The Mountaineers (25-7) shot 28.6% (8 for 28) from the field in the second half, but kept the Longhorns scoreless in the last five and a half minutes to seal the win.
Texas (11-22) committed 14 turnovers throughout the game, three of which were on Jarrett Allen.
Allen was almost a non-factor in the game, but still nearly pulled out a double-double (9 points, 10 rebounds). He is projected to be an early pick in this summer’s NBA draft.
Andrew Jones led the Longhorns with 13 points.
Other than Carter, no other West Virginia player scored in double figures.
Elijah Macon led the Mountaineers with 10 rebounds.
West Virginia returns to action tomorrow against either Baylor or Kansas State in the Big 12 semifinals at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Tip-off is set for approximately 9:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.
