According to multiple sources including the official university football feed, the 2017 season opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies will now be played on Sunday September, 3 at 7:30 PM in primetime. The game will also now be broadcast on ABC.
Fans traveling to Landover, Maryland for the game will now need to use Labor Day to recover from what will hopefully be a Mountaineer win over their long-time rivals. The last time the two teams met was twelve years ago, back in 2005. Both teams entered the game undefeated but the Hokies left Morgantown with a win, 34-17.
Fans who have been clamoring for the Mountaineers to play many of their old rivarly games will now need to wait one more day before they can entertain raising the Black Diamond Trophy in victory. West Virginia leads the all-time series 28-22-1 but Virginia Tech is 12-5 in their last 17 meetings against the Mountaineers.
