The WVU baseball team handled Nicholls State 8-1 on Thursday night to kick off their Cajun tour.
The Mountaineers (6-2) rattled off four runs in the third inning to take an early commanding lead from which the Colnels never recovered.
Isaiah Kearns started on the mound for the first time in his career. He finished with 5.2 innings pitch (the first four of which were hit-less) and allowed only one hit and struck out five batters.
The Colonels (4-5) loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and looked like they could potentially rally, but a ground out to third clinched the win for WVU.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow as they head up U.S. Route 90 to New Orleans to take on Tulane in a three game series. The first pitch of game one is at 7:30 p.m.
