In the final AP poll before the 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, West Virginia landed at No. 13. The Mountaineers (26-8) fell two spots from last week, despite winning two games in the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship before falling in the final.

WVU is joined by three other Big 12 teams. Kansas (28-4) fell to No. 3 after losing in their first game in the Big 12 tournament. Baylor (25-7) who was also ousted in their first game in Kansas City, dropped to No. 9. Big 12 tournament champions Iowa State (23-10) rose to No. 17 this week.

In the Coaches Poll, WVU is ranked 12th, Kansas is number 3, Baylor is 11th and Iowa State comes in at 20th.

Those four teams, plus Oklahoma State and Kansas State, will compete in the NCAA tournament that begins this week. No. 1 seed Kansas and No. 5 seed Iowa State could meet in the Midwest regional semifinals (Sweet 16) and Oklahoma State is the 10 seed in this region. Baylor, a 3 seed, is in the East region and Kansas State will play in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday against Wake Forest for a spot in the South region.

WVU was awarded the 4 seed in the West region and will play Bucknell in the first round on Thursday, March 16, at 2:45 p.m., in Buffalo, NY.

After impressive victories over three top-25 teams in route to a Big 12 tournament title, the WVU women’s basketball team was ranked No. 22 in the final Women’s Top 25. The Mountaineers (23-10) defeated No. 23 Oklahoma (22-9), No. 14 Texas (23-8) and No. 5 Baylor (30-3) two weekends ago in Oklahoma City.

The Mountaineers are ranked No. 21 in the Coaches Poll.

WVU awaits their fate in the 2017 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, as the selection will occur tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
