West Virginia, the Big 12 Conference runners-up, are a No. 4 seed in the West region of the 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Mountaineers will square off with Bucknell on Thurday, March 16 in Buffalo, NY. Tip off for that game has been set for 2:30PM Eastern and will be broadcast on CBS. The Bison finished the season with a 26-8 (15-3 conference) record and won the Patriot League championship.

If the Mountaineers make it past the Bison, they will take on former Big East foe Notre Dame or the Ivy League champion Princeton Tigers. Possible Sweet Sixteen matchups include Gonzaga, Northwestern and Vanderbilt.

The Mountaineers were a No. 3 seed in the 2016 NCAA tournament, but were bounced in the first round with an embarrassing 14-point loss the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. West Virginia’s last appeared in the Sweet Sixteen in 2015 as a No. 5 seed, before being blown out by the Kentucky Wildcats.

No. 1 seeds in this year’s tournament are the defending National Champions, Villanova Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks, North Carolina Tar Heels and Gonzaga.

The Big 12 Conference has five other teams in the tournament this year; No. 1 Kansas, No. 3 Baylor, No. 5 Iowa State, No. 10 Oklahoma State, and Kansas State as a No. 11 seed play-in team.
