The first official National Signing Day signing for the West Virginia Mountaineers comes from Ligoner Valley (PA) safety Collin Smith.
Smith, a 6’-0”, 196lb athlete from just outside of Pittsburgh, originally committed to the Mountaineers back in June 2016, and has stuck by them from the start. Smith shined on both sides of the ball at Ligoner Valley H.S., playing both quarterback and safety, but the West Virginia coaching staff were particularly impressed with his play on the defensive side of the ball.
Smith was rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Scout, and chose West Virginia over offers from Michigan, Louisville, Boston College and Connecticut.
