West Virginia quarterback Will Grier has been named a Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Semifinalist. Grier is one of sixteen players to make the semifinal list for the award. Grier is one of three Big 12 quarterbacks to make the list. The other two are Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma and Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State.
Among the list of semifinalists this year both Mayfield and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson were finalists last year. This is Mayfield’s third year on the list and he has been a finalist both in 2015 and ‘16.
Grier, a redshirt junior who transfered to West Virginia last year, has started every game for the Mountaineers. Grier is currently fourth in the nation in passing yards (3,068), second in passing touchdowns (30), and ninth in both yards per pass (9.2) and QB Rating (165.8). This past weekend against Iowa State, Grier tied Geno Smith’s school record with his eighth 300-yard passing game.
