Last year, the West Virginia women's soccer team finished as the national runner-up. For the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, the Mountaineers will be a No. 2 seed. WVU will host Bucknell in the first round of the tournament on Saturday, November 11.

The 2017 Women’s College Cup will be held at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando. If successful, WVU will host every match until the College Cup. The Mountaineers could face a rematch with either Penn State or Georgetown in the national quarterfinals. WVU opened the season with a 1-0 win over Georgetown and defeated Penn State 2-1. WVU is in the same half of the bracket as overall No. 1 seed Stanford.

Despite not winning a conference trophy for the first time in since joining the Big 12 (and even the final two years in the Big East), WVU remained a top-10 team for most of the season. In the final Top Drawer Soccer poll, WVU was ranked No. 10.

A total of five Big 12 teams earned berths to the NCAA tournament. Texas earned a No. 4 seed while regular-season champs Oklahoma State, tournament champs TCU and tournament runners-up Baylor also make up the 64-team bracket.
