West Virginia Athletic Director Shane Lyons announced Monday afternoon that head basketball coach Bob Huggins has been extended through the 2027 season. According to the extension, Huggins will remain the head coach of the basketball team through the 2020-2021 season, after which he will assume a five-year Emeritus status within the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The agreement will conclude on June 30, 2027.

Bob Huggins will be paid an annualized salary of $3.75 million this season, his eleventh with the team. His pay will be based on $250,000 in base payments and the remainder in supplemental pay with all revenue generated by the athletic department.

His annual compensation will increase $100,000 per year from the 3.75 Million this year to 3.85 in ‘18-19, 3.95 in 2019-20, 4.05 million in 2020-21. Huggins will earn $4,150,000 in his final year as the head basketball coach.

Here is what AD Shane Lyons had to say about the extension:

"This is a great day for our department. I want Bob Huggins leading our basketball program for many years to come. Bob is a future Hall of Famer, who cares about his players and this University. His teams have been highly successful on the court and in the classroom. In finalizing this contract extension, I wanted the eighth all-time and third-winningest active Division I coach on our sideline leading his alma mater."
