This 2017-18 West Virginia Mountaineers squad is enigmatic. That’s really the only thing I can say about them at this point, and we’ve seen that proven in less than 24-hours. After the Mountaineers struggled to put a win-less Marist away last night, they returned to the HP Field House this evening and completely demolished a 4-0 UCF Knights team. West Virginia rolled to a 83-45 win over the Knights, and will advance to the Advocare Invitational championship game.
The Mountaineers had another good shooting night, and had four players finish with double digits. Beetle Bolden led all scorers, off the bench, with 17 points, four rebounds and two assists. Jevon Carter added 16 points, five assists and five steals.
Bolden kicked the dumptrucking off around the 13:00 mark in the first half with a three-pointer to put the Mountaineers up 13-6, and West Virginia never looked back. West Virginia took a 43-20 lead into the half, after forcing a turnover on 41% of UCF’s first half possessions. The thrashing continued through the second half. We even saw a Logan Routt jam, followed by a Routt block on the opposite end of the court. A successful Black Friday, if there ever was one.
West Virginia will face Missouri on Sunday night at 9:30PM in the championship game of the Advocare Invitational. That game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
