Oh Dana...

It was another rainy day in November. Morgantown was watching WVU sports. A lovely past time if you love WVU. Our football team fell to Texas, 28-14. Now I know what many must think, But it is not Dana's fault. Well, not all his fault at least.

WVU, in the past, (oh, how I hate when fans compare past with present years), Has never really done well in the rain. I mean WVU-Cincinnati 2003 ring a bell? What was it 8-9 turnovers, and this is before Cincinnati was a Big East member. And fast forward to WVU this year staring down another average season. Does this sound familiar as well? Don Nehlen had tons of those. Now comes Oklahoma. And with a back-up QB, WVU's offense looks more like a Rich Rod, Brad Lewis type of O instead of what we expected Dana and the gang to produce.

FIRE HOLGS!!! is what I see a lot in comments and around town, but slow down WVU. You are not Michigan, more like Minnesota,..no they have National titles. Or maybe Nebraska, no they have national titles as well. Oh I know, Mississippi State.....no they are in a state and region....and conference where they can find talent easy.

As much as I would like to see Holgerson gone, I'm a big time fan of Alabama's style or a pro type of offense, and a nasty D. He is the best we have for.....the next forever. Unless we find another gem like Rod. Now I am on the record says Rich, I hated, again didn't like his offense and I hate, hate, hate the 3-3-5. Playing it as Mike in college made me hate it even more. Holgs is all we have. We are what I like to call one in a decade team. WVU is good nationally once a decade. And a large reason for that since at least the 50s was the teams that we played. We could control our schedule, being an independent, or in the SOC, or the Big East, when the Big East was bad. Since I could remember WVU has only really been in the national title hopes twice. 1993 was amazing but their was no way we could beat Florida. Anyway 1988-89, and 2007,08 since I was born. And we remember those years. I mean Major getting knocked around and ND just doing what they wanted against a really good D. And do I need to say anymore than Pitt and Dave and Shady?

The best WVU could hope for to get back into the mix is what the 76ers did but on a longer more tedious path. Just lose, and lose, for years, and make no money, then in 20 years we turn into temple in the early 2000s. We become independent for a few years and then maybe get picked up by a conference that makes a little sense geographically. Then maybe after 20 years or so we get luck and a really good ex-player turned coach comes back and leads WVU to an undefeated or one-loss season. Then bam!!! to all those fans that Hate Holgs and expects WVU to compete like Alabama on the field every year, and want someone else to have to fly hours to each away game against teams that can easily out recruit WVU, then we can maybe win a Championship.

But until then, we will see 7-5,5-7,8-4,7-5,6-6, season after season, with a few losses where you scratch your head thinking, why did we lose by a point again. Or why couldn't we kill the clock with three minutes to go. Or how come our offense cannot score points in the second half. Or why did we just take a timeout in before a kickoff. OR why did our coach get a personal foul. Or why is our coach.....OH DANA
