The West Virginia Mountaineers move to 7-3 on the season after beating Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas by a final score of 28-23.
As with every other matchup between these two teams, this one never felt comfortable. Both teams started the game out with just a flat out bad attempt at offense, with Kansas State taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter off of two field goals. West Virginia would finally respond, however, as Will Grier hit Ka’Raun White in stride for a 74-yard touchdown.
West Virginia would build on that, and the second quarter became the David Sills and Ka’Raun White Variety Hour with a special appearance by Gary Jennings. For 15 minutes, the Mountaineer offense looked as good as we’ve seen it this season. Will Grier was able to scramble when flushed out of the pocket and find his guys down field, including this ridiculous play.
It should be noted that play was ran after Dana Holgorsen took a timeout to listen to Mike Golic Jr. and Jonathan Vilma talk about this huge matchup between Miami and Notre Dame tonight at 8:00PM ET on ABC. The U and Notre Dame are back folks, and ESPN made sure to let us know by allowing their commentators to take 5+ minutes of screen time while the audio of a football game between two Power 5 teams was being played in the background.
But I digress,
Here are the key takeaways:
- Kenny Robinson is going to be really, really good over the next few years.
- Will Grier now has nine 300+ yard passing games this season, breaking the record previously set by Geno Smith.
- David Sills V stays the leader in the #Silletnikoff race. Kings Stay Kings. He has 18 touchdowns on the season.
- Ka’Raun White is quietly having an amazing season, hauling in 8 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns today.
West Virginia returns home next Saturday for Senior Day/Night against the Texas Longhorns. Kickoff time/channel should be announced shortly.
