The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors' selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don't worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.
All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.
Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK
Our first Pick'Em Gauntlet group has filled up but don't worry, we've set up a second group for those who haven't joined yet. People in the second group will still be competing against those in the first group.

We didn’t make predictions for another game during the bye week, but WVUIE97 was just 10 points off on the Kansas score so we’ll let him start things off this week.

Not sure how to feel about this one. I think TCU's defense is legit, but unsure about their offense. On the flipside, I feel our offense is legit, but not sure about our defense. I think our offense is more legit.

This one is tough. On the one hand, WVU has not beaten a ranked team since October 18, 2014. Since then, the team is 0-8 against ranked teams with an average score of 40-25. TCU is the best team in the land on 3rd down converting 62% of their chances. Darius Anderson scares me and I think his ability to run the ball hurts the Mountaineers in the 4th quarter.

Double digit road dogs? Am I missing something here? Didn't we beat the hell out of this exact team last year with a worse QB? Either way, this is a huge statement game for us - on the road, with Gameday on-site, against a team that's already knocked down one of the supposed conference front-runner. It's a hell of an opportunity.
Our defense should be in as good of shape as it's been all year with the dear David Long joining the party and Lamont McDougle starting to provide some much needed real-dudeliness up front. On the other side, TCU gives up a ton of big plays; we're one of the 3 or 4 most explosive offenses in the country. Take that for what you will. We aren't gonna hold them to 10 again, but it shouldn't matter.

West Virginia will not lose this game by two touchdowns. They might not even lose, I've been going back and forth all week, but TCU is super good and has the home field advantage.

I don't think a bye week is enough to fix our D line problems, but our offense is able to move the ball better.

As rivalries go, TCU is the closest thing WVU has to one in the Big 12. Blows have been traded over the last few years and extra quarters have been played. College gameday is in Fort Worth on Saturday to no doubt get a glimpse of the Spikey Amphibian defense that stymied the (allegedly) unstoppable Oklahoma State offense in Stillwater. Will Grier, however, has been thrust into big road challenges before and has succeded. Don't be mistaken- this will be decided by the better quarterback and my hard earned dollar goes to Grier over Hill in that head-to-head, who's proven to be a better passer while also showing the wheels to consistently extend plays. Expect some gassed defenses and expect Dana's visor to be carried out on a stretcher by halftime. Just don't be surprised if the folks in vegas have a bad night, as well.

Our run defense seemed to be exposed against Kansas. I'm not excited to see what TCU can do. But I do have faith in Gibby. And Grier. And Crawford. Although, of anyone, Crawford will be the most important. If he doesn't have a big day, we won't.

I think West Virginia will have a slow start and be down at halftime. I think the playmakers of this team will step up and lead a second half comeback. West Virginia wins in overtime.

Time is circular and revenge is a dish best served 3 years later. Will Grier finishes the job Clint Trickett started in the first quarter of the 2014 game. With the eyes of GameDay upon them and against the Lee Corso pick, the Mountaineers upset the Frogs and Grier is the talk of college football. Also recently-waived Josh Carraway of the Tennessee Titans drowns his sorrows in a Nashville honky-tonk, goes home with a skank and catches the clap. Revenge is complete.

I think TCU is a little better tested than we are. I think we will be able to score on them. I'm not convinced we'll be able to stop them. I hope I'm wrong. They aren't 2 TD's better.

WVU almost pulls off the upset on the road but in the end, TCU's offense proves to be too powerful for the Mountaineers defense.

West Virginia comes into this game as a two touchdown underdog, for whatever reason, and I’m just not seeing it. SBNation’s Bill C’s S&P+ formula agrees with Vegas and has the Horned Frogs winning by 13. The Solid Verbal’s Ty Hildenbrandt says West Virginia loses by 17 because TCU beat Oklahoma State, and “West Virginia is nowhere near as good offensively as Oklahoma State.” Well, the stats say otherwise. West Virginia is currently No. 2 in total offense, ahead of that Oklahoma State team that was supposed to be world beaters.
The Mountaineer run defense didn’t look good, by any means, when we last saw them. Dana says it’s not a scheme issue, and I believe him. I think we’ll see that the bye week paid off, and the West Virginia defense has gelled and perform much better than two weeks ago.
West Virginia steals the win in Ft. Worth with a late touchdown from Will Grier to David Sills.
