Pick’Em Gauntlet: Week Seven Results And Baylor Predictions

New, 1 comment

We’ve got a couple contestants trying to run away with the competition. It’s not too late to get in and make your push to the top of the leaderboard.

The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors' selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don't worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.

All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.

Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK

Our first Pick'Em Gauntlet group has filled up but don't worry, we've set up a second group for those who haven't joined yet. People in the second group will still be competing against those in the first group.

We have 27 games to pick this week, starting that other Division I team from West Virginia tonight at 7:00PM ET and continuing through Pac12 After Dark on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Deadline for each pick is 5 minutes before kickoff.

Here are the leaders after week 7. Congratulations to mtneer03 winning the week with 17 correct picks. All you win for this is kudos, but it did put you right outside the top scores.

Baylor scares me, probably more than they should. But, I think the TT game will end up being something that defines and galvanizes this WVU team and they will build on it.

I try to never be "you need to blow this team out" guy but I think that we do. Baylor is a dangerous, talented team that is hungry for a win and will have a night game home crowd behind them. West Virginia needs to come out firing like it's the fourth quarter against Tech. I'm nervous, but I think we do.

West Virginia 49 - Baylor 17

This game should be a win, but Baylor has proven to be a competitive team in Big 12 play, keeping games close. The Bears will probably be within a feild goal at halftime, and maybe into the third quarter. Eventually, I see WVU's offense out-gun the Bears.

West Virginia 40 - Baylor 31

An 0-6 Baylor team. One of the worst sexual assault scandals and subsequent cover ups in the history of college sports. A fanbase that, based on personal experience, peers down its collective nose while swirling their Napa cab. I may love the state of Texas, but Baylor gets every ounce of my ire. That said, West Virginia can ill afford to look past even the lowliest of bears given the level of competition that the Big 12 has displayed this season. I'd love to see Jake Spavital call deep pass after deep pass and burn the turf right out of McLane stadium. Using Oklahoma State's piece of demolition art as a blueprint, I think West Virginia can serve notice with a healthy mix of run/pass and an improving defense can make sure that Zach Smith and co. stay under the 20 point threshold. Bear pelts for everyone.

Shootout. But I think we win this one. At some point, I think our defense is going to put it all together. Just not this week.

This game is a great opportunity for West Virginia to build off of the huge comeback win against Texas Tech. Baylor is the weakest team in the conference and WVU should handle their business on offense, defense, and special teams. I think the Mountaineers will take it to Baylor to set up another epic game in Morgantown against Oklahoma State.

The Mountaineers give their fans a scare after they go into halftime with a three point lead but end up steamrolling the Bears in the second-half.

This one should be an easy win for the Mountaineers, but nothing is every truly easy in the Big 12 Conference. We saw Baylor give Oklahoma a run for their money earlier this season. I think the Bears keep it close early, but Grier and the Mountaineers are just too good and begin to run away with it. Bring on Oklahoma State.

West Virginia 42 - Baylor 21

Eat shit, Baylor
