When the West Virginia Mountaineers take the field at McLane Stadium, they’ll be decked out in a uniform combination that we haven’t seen since the 2015 season.
West Virginia first wore the white/white/blue combo in 2014 against Iowa State, in what was Skyler Howard’s breakout game. Howard replaced Clint Trickett to start the game, and finished 21-of-40 passing for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Current Chicago Bears wideout Mario Alford was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns, with Daikiel Shorts hauling in the third.
The Mountaineers donned the combo again the following season for their trip to Ft. Worth at the end of their October Death March. West Virginia would end up losing 40-10, in the game that saw TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin and Mountaineer head coach Dana Holgorsen slap hands on the sideline following a ridiculously athletic play from Boykin.
