Finally a shift in the Top 5! The USC Trojans, who traveled to Pullman, Washington to take on Mike Leach’s Washington State Cougars. The Cougars kicked a go-ahead field goal with 1:40 left and watched as Jahad Woods sacked Heisman hopeful Sam Darnold, knocking the ball loose and ending the Trojans hope for a victory. The Trojans fall 9 spots to #14 while the Cougars move up 5 to #11.
Alabama Crimson Tide, despite beating Ole Miss Rebels 66-3, lost first place votes. The Clemson Tigers took on West Virginia’s week one opponent, Virginia Tech Hokies, winning easily 31-17. Josh Jackson, who was poised when he took on the Mountaineers at Fedex Field, looked rattled against the Tigers defense, throwing two interception, the first of which was returned 22 yards for a touchdown. The Hokies, despite losing by 14, thanks to Josh Jackson’s garbage time touchdown with 1:32 remaining, only dropped four spots to #16.
West Virginia’s week 6 opponent, TCU Horned Frogs, moved up one spot to #8 in the latest AP poll. Notre Dame, who defeated mighty Miami of Ohio, moves ahead of West Virginia and ties Florida at #21 after being not ranked last week.
