Hermann Trophy winner Kadeisha Buchanan is following fellow Mountaineer and long-time teammate, Ashley Lawrence, to France to continue her soccer career. The two have been teammates since they were nine years old, but now find themselves on opposite sides of a rivalry in Ligue 1, France’s top soccer league. Buchanan signed with Olympique Lyonnais which is based in Lyon, a city about 300 miles away from Lawrence’s new home team in Paris, on Sunday.

The former West Virginia women’s soccer superstars will face off against each other for the first time on May 14, 2017 in league play. Lawrence’s Paris Saint-Germain is currently sitting atop the French standings with an unblemished 10-0-0 record, with Olympique Lyonnais directly below them at No. 2 with a 9-1-0 record. Lyon’s one loss came in a one-nil PSG win on December 17th.

Kadeisha is set to undergo her medical exam on Monday and will join the team following that. Buchanan will be joined in Lyon by United State’s women’s soccer superstar Alex Morgan, who just signed with the club last week. Lyon are the defending UEFA Women’s Champion League champions, and are the most successful club in Division 1 Feminine with 14 league titles.
