West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. TCU Horned Frogs Preview: Season 108 Episode 15 - The ‘Alternative’ Brawl

New, 3 comments

WVU plays its first game of the season against the familiar face of former Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon as he brings his TCU Horned Frogs to Morgantown.

OPENING THOUGHTS

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t really want to talk about the Texas Tech game. It was ugly, it was our poorest effort, and let’s never speak of it again. Agreed? Cool.

Now next up on the docket, we’ve got the TCU Horned Frogs. Usually most Mountaineer fans can usually pencil this game as a win, but that has changed with former Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon moving to Fort Worth.

Since he’s taken over the job over at TCU, I’ve had trouble naming this recharged series. I definitely wanted to make a reference to the Backyard Brawl, without actually calling it that. I tried “not-so-Backyard Brawl”, “Cross-Country Brawl”, and “The Alternate Backyard Brawl” before finally landing on “The Alternate Brawl.” If you have anymore suggestions for the series please leave them in the comment section below. This could be a possible opportunity for another Riot Bowl-type series so let’s put our heads together on this.

Along with being the Coliseum return for Jamie Dixon, this is also the first game where the students will begin to start pouring back into Morgantown so we might actually have some Mountaineer Maniacs antics in the building (RIGHT! LEFT! RIGHT! LEFT!) (SUCKS EGGS!).

Have fun guys, but please let’s not have this again:

KEYS TO THE GAME

  • FOUL SHOOTING. Duh.
  • Rebounds. TCU is one of the worst teams in the Big 12 when it comes to defensive rebounds. If Adrian and Ahmad can exploit that off of the offensive glass, it could create some quality second chance points.

HOW AFRAID SHOULD WE BE (ON A SCALE OF 1-10)?

Five. I’m as afraid of TCU as I am of an episode of the Twilight Zone. Not really that scary, more thought provoking.

PREDICTION THAT WILL BE WRONG

The Horned Frogs will be a tough team to beat for many teams in the Big 12, but after the way they played against a poor Oklahoma team at home on Tuesday, I’m not convinced that this team can walk out of the Coliseum with a win. TCU will keep the game close for most, if not all, of the first half. After that, WVU will go on a scoring run or TCU will go on a scoring drought or both and make this game unreachable. STAY SAFE EVERYBODY!
