West Virginia snaps skid against Kansas 85-69

The Mountaineers snap the skid in the loudest way possible, baby!

After a miserable three game stretch, West Virginia managed to out-hustle Kansas in the final ten minutes of the game to secure the win, 85-69.

The Mountaineers (16-4) were carried by Esa Ahmad who, after being basically silent for the last four games, led all scorers with 27 points.

Ahmad got things started early with this monster dunk:

Behind the finesse of Devontae’ Graham, the Jayhawks (18-2) came bac kand led for most of the first half.

West Virginia then made a bit of a comeback and took the lead behind this three pointer by Nathan Adrian.

The Mountaineers went into the locker room with a 38-35 lead.

Coming out of halftime, WVU continued their scoring output, including this monster dunk by Ahmad to put the Mountaineers up 9.

Kansas came back however, and eventually took the lead, 59-58, with less than ten minutes left. Both the Mountaineers and the Jayhawks began trading baskets from there, which included this dunk by Josh Jackson:

After that, it was all WVU. The Jayhawks couldn’t stop the layups by the Mountaineers. Sagaba Konate eventually had a dunk similar to Jaysean Paige’s dagger last year against Kansas.

Along with Ahmad, three Mountaineers finished with double figures. Nathan Adrian finished with 11, Daxter Miles and Tarik Phillip both finished with 10. Jevon Carter led the team in rebounds with 8.

Jackson led Kansas with 22 points, tying his season high. Devonte’ Graham and Frank Mason III also finished in double figures. Landen Lucas led all players with 10 rebounds.

The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday as they host Texas A&M in the Big 12-SEC Challenge. Tip is set for noon ET on ESPN.
