Yodny Cajuste, a redshirt sophomore from Miramar, Florida, will be out for the season after suffering an ACL tear in his right knee on Saturday. The injury occurred early in the second quarter against the Missouri Tigers.
The Mountaineers still managed to win their season opener 26-11 in a dominating performance against the highly touted Tigers' defensive line.
Cajuste was just coming into his own after sustaining a knee injury last season which caused him to miss six games as a redshirt freshman.
Yodny now joins a group of key WVU Mountaineers who are out for the season with knee injuries; safety Dravon Askew-Henry and linebacker Brendan Ferns. Cajuste joining the group just adds to the inescapable relationship the WVU program has with knee injuries. Last year, Safety Karl Joseph went down before the season with a knee injury before departing to the NFL.
Cajuste will be replaced by Colton McKivitz at left tackle. McKivitz is a 6-7 304 pound redshirt freshman from Jacobsberg, Ohio, and stepped in for Cajuste on Saturday after Yodny was injured.
