Your West Virginia Mountaineers will take the field Saturday wearing a uniform combination they’ve broken out a few times. The traditional blue helmets matched with the new old gold shirts and traditional blue pants were first debuted against Towson in 2014.
The game against Towson couldn’t have gone better for the Mountaineers with the first shutout for newly declared defensive coordinator Tony Gibson. The Mountaineers would once again use this uniform combination when they returned to a bowl game in 2014.
Against the Texas A&M Aggies, West Virginia wore blue-gold-blue combination. That was the first time quarterback Skyler Howard would get to wear this unique combination. Skyler would go on to complete 20 of 45 passes for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns in only his second start for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers wore this combination one time last year, the nail biter in Morgantown against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead but the Mountaineers would climb back into the game and eventually tie the game on a three yard Skyler Howard run.
Overall, the Mountaineers are 1-2 with the uniform combination but will look to make it 2-2 as they take on the BYU Cougars this Saturday at FedEx Field.
