Dana Holgorsen Doesn't Want All Of West Virginia's Focus To Be On BYU

While Holgorsen will introduce BYU to his team this week, the Mountaineer head coach wants his players to focus on making progress more so than its next opponent.

West Virginia football coach Dana Holgorsen plans to introduce his team to BYU slowly during this week’s bye.

Dana Holgorsen didn’t disguise his disappointment with his two backup QBs after the game, but he didn’t hide from the fact the Mountaineers would need their backup quarterbacks. Turns out, they needed them the following week. Holgorsen said he was comfortable enough with their practice performances to consider playing either of them in the first half. That never happened, but Holgorsen nevertheless thought the way they participated in practice and then the game was an improvement — and he added true freshman Cody Saunders will now redshirt.

Apparently all the noise from West Virginia University’s first home football game wasn’t cheers for the Mountaineers. According to reports, operations at Milan Puskar Stadium were, let’s say, less than optimal. Mountaineer athletic director Shane Lyons, however, said Game 2 went more smoothly.
