Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown: WVU's best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions.
WVU's football team went through a practice in 88-degree heat Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Mountaineer associate athletic director Matt Wells went through his paces in an air-conditioned WVU Coliseum. Yet the heat was still on. Season ticket sales are down, once again, for the 2016 season and the downward trend can be blamed on many reasons.
Tuesday couldn't get here fast enough for Dana Holgorsen, but the 2016 season began at long last with the first practice in advance of the Sept. 3 opener at home against the Southeastern Conference's Missouri.
West Virginia's projected backup nose tackle Jaleel Fields will miss 2016 after suffering an offseason knee injury, coach Dana Holgorsen announced Tuesday.
West Virginia Athletics:
The West Virginia University women's soccer team is ranked No. 6 in the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I Women's Preseason Ranking, released this evening just hours before the start of the team's 2016 preseason camp.
Around The Big 12:
As the Big 12 plods through another round of expansion talks, one of the conference's options is to get bigger in a half-baked way. It isn't likely, per se, but Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby has signaled that his league is open to adding schools only in football. That would give new members a one-sport ticket to the Big 12, with other sports staying in their current leagues.
I love this. If you're not watching Stranger Things on Netflix already, GET TO IT!
