West Virginia Mountaineers starting left guard Adam Pankey was charged with a DUI on Saturday in Morgantown after he wrecked his car on Stewart Street, according to Joey LoMonaco of the Dominion Post.
Mike Casazza of the Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that police found Pankey’s car upside down off the road with Pankey still inside. The Mountaineers’ offensive lineman was found inside the car with minor injuries, the report says, and was taken into custody without going to a hospital for treatment.
“I have been made aware of the situation and am gathering the facts at this time,” WVU coach Dana Holgorsen said in a statement. “When all the facts are in, I will take appropriate action.”
Depending on the severity of any punishment enforced by Holgorsen, this could be a crushing blow for the Mountaineers’ offense. Pankey started 12 games last season as a junior and 13 games as a sophomore and was expected to anchor the offensive line in 2016 along with center Tyler Orlosky.
