WVU to host New Hampshire and Manhattan in NIT Season Tip-Off

We know that the Mountaineers have been chosen to play in the 2016 NIT Season Tip-Off tournament, November 24-25, at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. With this commitment comes two more games against lower-level teams.

In addition to the tournament games played in the 2016 NIT Season Tip-Off, WVU men’s basketball will host games against New Hampshire and Manhattan. The first game will be played before the tournament, on Sunday, November 20, and the second game will be played on Monday, November 28, after the tournament.

These two games give WVU four total games in the NIT Season Tip-Off, adding to the first-round match up against Illinois and subsequent game against either Temple or Florida State, on November 24 and 25, in Brooklyn, New York.

The game against the Wildcats is the day after the WVU football team hosts Oklahoma, which could mean a very packed WVU Coliseum. However, this is also the Sunday before Thanksgiving break, so many students may have already left.

New Hampshire plays in the American East conference. Last season, they tallied a 20-13 record, losing in the final of the conference tournament and second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. They have never been to an NCAA tournament.

WVU will take on the Jaspers on the Monday after Thanksgiving, hopefully after taking home the Season Tip-Off prize.

Manhattan, on the other hand has eight tournament appearances, most recently in 2015. Last season, the Jaspers compiled a 13-18 record, but did make the final game of the MAAC tournament.

Times have not been determined yet, but will all games will be on the ESPN family of networks.
