Like the men's basketball teams in their conferences, the Big 12 and SEC have announced the pairings for the 2016 SEC/Big 12 Challenge in women's basketball. The Mountaineers have been tabbed to host Ole Miss on Sunday, December 4, 2016, in the WVU Coliseum, in Morgantown.
WVU women's basketball will be looking to keep their momentum from the last three seasons. In 2013-2014, the Mountaineers were co-champs of the Big 12 and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In 2014-2015, WVU finished a rebuilding year as runners-up in the Women's NIT. The 2015-2016 campaign saw the Mountaineers notch a 25-10 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, Ole Miss finished 19-14 overall, but just 3-8 on the road. Their season ended with an appearance in third round of the Women's NIT.
This is the first year the conferences will play the women's challenge in the same format as the men's. Every Big 12 school will be playing and 10 SEC schools have been selected. The past two seasons featured two games between the conferences played at a neutral site.
Other notable match-ups include South Carolina at Texas on December 1 and Baylor at Tennessee on December 4. All games will be played between Thursday, December 1, and Sunday, December 4, with times and TV to be released later.
