Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown: WVU's best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions.

As of the time of writing, there is no news of note today. We're deep in the abyss of the offseason, and since the WVU baseball team got left out of the NCAA College Baseball World Series, there is nothing going on. But that doesn't mean the Shotgun/Throwdown doesn't continue chugging along!
Today is the greatest state in the nation's birthday. Our Mountain Mama turns 153 years old today, and we're going to take the time out from our normal routine and celebrate her the way she deserves to be celebrated.
The executive editor of The Exponent Telegram said it best. West Virginia is worth celebrating today and every day. Excuse us for bragging, but we're proud to be Mountaineers.
Happy birthday to wild, wonderful West Virginia! I have never experienced a place with more determination and willingness to do good.

Happy West Virginia Day! It was June 20, 1863 when West Virginia became the 35th state. #WVU125https://t.co/vxqETniRbp

Today's Miss Throwdown is West Virginia's favorite daughter. She doesn't have an Instagram account, but there are plenty of pictures of Jennifer Garner out there.
