Four outs into the game, starting pitcher Chad Donato injured his right arm making a play. BJ Myers came on in relief and delivered 4.2 innings of 2-hit ball. Myers was a little wild, walking four Red Raiders but the defensive player of the Mountaineers was able to limit the damage by the #5 team in the nation.
Myers came on and hit Hunter Hargrove on his first pitch. Myers redeemed himself by picking off Hargroves at first. After trading three scoreless, WVU scored first. Ivan Vera singled up the middle. Jackson Cramer then lifted a 1-1 fastball to right center.
Unlike yesterday when Mountaineer pitching kept the Sooners from crossing the plate, every time West Virginia scored, Texas Tech answered the call. Texas Tech drew back to back one-out walks in the sixth before leftfielder Tyler Nesloney singled to score Anthony Lyons. A sacrifice fly by Hargrove tied the game at 2-2.Kyle Gray made sure the game stayed tied with an incredible diving catch.
After WVU and Texas Tech traded runs, WVU finally broke the game open. KC Huth drew a walk and Kyle Gray singled. Shortstop Jimmy Galusky used a drag bunt to load the bases for Kyle Davis. Davis drilled a 1-1 fastball to right center clearing the bases for WVU. Davis would score on an Ivan Vera sacrifice fly for a four-run seventh inning.
WVU will now have an off day on Friday before taking on the winner of Texas Tech vs Oklahoma. Oklahoma beat the Kansas State Wildcats 13-7.
