Game Preview
The Mountaineers lost 2 of 3 to the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman this year. Pitcher Chad Donato, an All Big-12 1st Team selection will likely take the mound for the Mountaineers to start the tournament. Chad threw 8 scoreless innings against the Sooners but was matched by freshman Chris Andritsos. Donato pitched 8.0 innings and gave up four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. With Donato on the mound, seven Sooners were stranded on the basepaths.
Andritsos took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and yielded just two hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. He helped the Mountaineers strand four baserunners. The Sooners eventually scored a run off an error by senior pitcher Blake Smith, whose throw to first was off-target.
The Sooners took Game 2 12-6 while the Mountaineers stormed back in Game 3to win 12-7.
