West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Manhattan Jaspers Preview: Season 108 Episode 6 - The One For The ‘58 Team

Between a trip to Brooklyn and a tough road game at Virginia, the Mountaineers looks to exact revenge for one of the best teams in school history.

Despite that comeback that ended up being just short against Temple on Friday, I think it was a pretty good weekend for Mountaineer fans overall.

The football team steamrolled Iowa State, the women’s soccer team shutout Duke to punch their ticket to San Jose and the Final Four and the women’s basketball team went 3 for 3 in the Savannah Invitational and beat High Point on Sunday to remain undefeated.

We also got to see The Pride of West Virginia at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Not a bad weekend at all.

The Temple game did expose some concerns about the team, but luckily it exposed them earlier rather than later. I’m confident that Bob Huggins will do what he can to make the necessary adjustments to compete against Virginia and the Big 12.

Meanwhile, we take on a Manhattan team that doesn’t look that impressive right now with losses against Bucknell and Winthrop. However, the Jaspers almost always seem to start every season off this way, before getting to the NCAA Tournament.

Who knows?

They may surprise us.

  • Offensive boards. West Virginia got out-rebounded off the offensive glass 13-9 (*painful flashback, I wish I could have prevented*) in the first half. That was the Mountaineers’ bread and butter last year. If it can’t be improved on, we might be looking at the NIT instead of the NCAA’s.
  • FREAKIN’ FREE THROWS!!! How many times must I say improve foul shooting before you will do it. WVU was 61% from the line on Friday and it probably cost them the game!

One. I am as afraid of the Jaspers as I would be of Barney Stinson’s one night stands.

I believe that Bob Huggins will get many of the kinks in the lineup figured out this week and steamroll Manhattan in the process. Coming up next is what should be a really good game at Virginia. Try to catch as much of it as you can before the WVU-Baylor football game on Saturday.
