Smoking Musket College Pick 'Em Gauntlet Week 12 Results And Riot Bowl Predictions

Two weeks left in the contest, and we have a three-way tie at the top of the board. It's getting pretty intense! Plus, the staff gives our predictions for this weekend's matchup against Iowa State.

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

The Smoking Musket Pick ‘Em Gauntlet is an online college pick ‘em game where we will try to pick the winners of the weekly Big 12 contests plus Yahoo! editors' selected games (usually the games involving the top 25 teams). We do pick against the spread (when available). There are usually 20-30 games to pick each week and each correct pick is worth one point. The winner (excluding Musket staff) will be the person at the end of the regular season who has the most correct picks/points. Points are cumulative, so don't worry if you happen to miss a week or two. We will award the winner a WVU Nike T-shirt at the conclusion of the games in December.

All participants are subject to the Official Rules as determined by SB Nation.

We actually filled the first group, so we had to open a second league to fit everyone in. The second league will serve solely as an extension of the first league, and is not a standalone league. If you are in the second league, you are still competing with those in the first league.

Our game, as in the past, will be hosted by Yahoo! Fantasy. GAME LINK

We have 25 games to pick this week, starting at Noon ET on Friday. Deadline for each pick is 5 minutes before kickoff.

Here are the leaders after week 12. Congratulations to Vince for winning week 12 (all you win for this is kudos). Y'all answered the challenge last week and we now have a three way tie for the No. 1 spot. Only one person can win though, so every pick counts at this point.

Last week the crew was pretty split on how West Virginia's showdown in Morgantown with Oklahoma would go, and we all know the result. So at least about half of us were on the right track. We'll try to do better this week.

Matt Kirchner

The team rebounds from a devastating lpss and avoids the dangers of Ames, returning to Morgantown with the Sacred Gas Can of the Riot Bowl in tow for the third year in a row.

Final Score:
West Virginia 34
Iowa State 13

This version of the Holgorsen led Mountaineers responded to their first defeat of the season with a 48-21 pantsing of Kansas. I expect the same outcome Saturday. Take out your anger and frustration on the Cyclones.

Final Score:
West Virginia 49
Iowa State 21

Patrick Southern

It's good for West Virginia that the Cyclones thumped Texas Tech last week, as that final score should grab the Mountaineers' attention for a game they otherwise may have expected to stroll through easily. Regardless, expect a bit of the post-Oklahoma hangover to carry into at least the opening stages of this game. But once WVU gets out of its own way, this should be a relatively comfortable ninth win of the season.

Final Score:
West Virginia 34
Iowa State 20

WVU doesn't let OU beat them twice and like others have said, the ISU beat down of TT keeps them focused. It's close at halftime before putting the Cyclones away and bringing home the gas can.

Final Score:
West Virginia 38
Iowa State 20

WVU has been out of sync offensively lately, so an ineffective offense against a confident D doesn't bode well for the Mountaineers. That said, I expect Gibby's #DAWGS to come out to prove something against the ISU offense.

Final Score:
West Virginia 30
Iowa State 24

Matt Campbell was a hell of a coach at Toledo, so the ISU improvement will only continue as he's able to recruit better talent in the seasons to come. In fact, that demolition of Texas Tech might be the perfect way to describe both coaches' trendlines with Kliff Kingsbury racing downward to an offensive coordinator position as Matt Campbell rises through the P5 head coach ranks. However, that scoreline does nothing but help the Mountaineers shake off a tough loss at home and focus on the monster at hand that is Jack Trice Stadium. I expect the run game and defense to travel as football's past tells us, but it really does come down to Good/Bad Skyler. I'm predicting that he plays fine. Not great, not bad. Adequate.

Final Score:
West Virginia 31
Iowa State 16

John Radcliff

This won't easy. While WVU has another game next week, this is the last game of the season for ISU. It's a team coming together at the end of the year for their first year head coach, Matt Campbell. It'll be senior night for them, etc. Expect a slug-fest Riot Bowl.

Final Score:
West Virginia 24
Iowa State 23

After everything going wrong that could last game the roles are reversed in Ames and the Mountaineers race out to an early lead and never let up.

Final Score:
West Virginia 45
Iowa State 14

Will Hirsch

A frustrated WVU squad hellbent on redeeming itself from the Oklahoma game comes out and gives no doubt about beating ISU

Final Score:
West Virginia 52
Iowa State 27

Robert Hurst

A redemption minded Mountaineer squad takes the Cyclones by storm early. The defense creates 3 turnovers, and a late push isn't enough for ISU. WVU takes the Riot Bowl.

Final Score:
West Virginia 52
Iowa State 31

Michael Miller

It's hard to shake the cobwebs off after getting your bell rung in front of your home crowd, and then go into a game against a perceived bad team that is sneakily putting things together.

West Virginia is in for a scare in Ames, but they will get past it with a too close for comfort victory.

Final Score:
West Virginia 24
Iowa State 21
