KEYS TO THE GAME
- Once again, RUSH DEFENSE. Between Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine, the Sooners average nearly 220 yards of rushing per game. I think limiting the rush is something the DAWGS are certainly capable of, but WATCH OUT!
- THERE IS NO DANA, ONLY RASUL!! That Baker Mayfield-Dede Westbrook connection is dangerous. It’s time for Rasul Douglas and the secondary to do their thing.
PREDICTION THAT WILL BE WRONG
I think that the odds are stacked up against West Virginia, which is exactly why they’ll win. This is Morgantown’s next big game, so be ready.
West Virginia 45, Oklahoma 42
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN THE BIG 12 ASSUMING WE WIN OUT
Texas at Kansas (Texas)
Kansas State at Baylor (Kansas State. We only beat them by one, so we want them to look decent at the end of the season.)
No. 11 Oklahoma State at TCU (Oklahoma State)
Texas Tech at Iowa State (Doesn’t really matter, I’m going to assume Texas Tech will win though)
TCU at Texas (Texas)
Baylor vs. Texas Tech (Texas Tech)
Kansas at Kansas State (Kansas State)
Kansas State at TCU (Kansas State)
Oklahoma State at Oklahoma (Oklahoma since the Cowboys would be tied with WVU in the Big 12 standings up to this point and also holding the head-to-head match up, the Mountaineers can’t lock up the Sugar Bowl bid)
FINAL STANDINGS ASSUMING THAT HAPPENS
- West Virginia (8-1, 11-1) [WVU holds head-to-head win over Oklahoma]
- Oklahoma (8-1, 9-3)
- Oklahoma State (7-2, 9-3)
- Kansas State (6-3, 8-4)
- Texas (5-4, 7-5)
- Texas Tech (4-5, 6-6)
- TCU (3-6, 5-7) [TCU holds head-to-head win over Baylor]
- Baylor (3-6, 6-6)
- Iowa State (1-8, 2-10)
- Kansas (0-9, 1-11)
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY THIS WEEK
We need even more chaos. Apparently, last week’s chaos wasn’t enough.
Chattanooga at No. 1 Alabama (Take a page out of Appalachian State’s playbook)
No. 2 Ohio State at Michigan State (Sparty, please take a break from your Rutgers impersonation and create more chaos)
Indiana at No. 3 Michigan (I don’t think it matters who wins this game, Michigan will still be No. 3)
No. 4 Clemson at Wake Forest (Arnold Palmer > Everything else)
Houston 36, No. 5 Louisville 10 (#AmericanRising)
Arizona State at No. 6 Washington (I’m rooting for ASU, not Todd Graham)
No. 7 Wisconsin at Purdue (Purdue is about due to win one of these things)
No. 8 Penn State at Rutgers (What exit?)
No. 22 Washington State at No. 10 Colorado (Honestly, who would’ve thought that these two teams would run the table in the Pac-12? Pulling for the Cougs, though)
Oregon at No. 12 Utah (I’m rooting for Nike State University)
No. 13 USC at UCLA (GIVE THEM THEIR FOURTH!!!)
We are so close. This is the biggest game in Morgantown in 23 years. This is a game that could be another chapter in the great history of West Virginia football; and it’s almost here. It could be like the 1975 Pitt game, which was also on ABC.
It could be like the 1984 Penn State game, we finally beat Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions.
Or when our Mountaineers beat Donnell Bennett and the U in 1993.
Maybe similar to the comeback win over Louisville in 2005.
But I think it will be more like the 2008 Fiesta Bowl against the Sooners.
The point is...we are watching the next chapter of West Virginia football and this could be the next great game. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is more of a microcosm of the history of this football program than the build up to this game. We are consistently disrespected, we are always undervalued, but we are dangerous at night and shine in the spotlight.
So as one Mountaineer fan to another and as one West Virginian to another, I am asking you, no matter where you live, from Weirton to Welch and Point Pleasant to Harpers Ferry and everywhere in between, tune in and savor this moment. If you will be in Morgantown, BE LOUD!! Make sure that they can hear you from Pittsburgh because this is our state’s time to stand out.
Think about how ESPN chose to pass us by, think about how we were totally disrespected on Tuesday and grit your teeth with every snap of the ball as our Mountaineers will.
Think about how we’re West Virginians and how we can overcome anything. Whether it’s mine disasters...
...we can power through it.
Think about no matter what, you wouldn’t trade the perfectly imperfect state you’re from for anything on the planet. Be so proud you’re busting buttons.
This is who we are. This is where we’ve been. Support our team and MAKE WEST VIRGINIA SHINE!! THIS IS OUR MOMENT!!
IT’S WEST VIRGINIA, IT’S WEST VIRGINIA
THE PRIDE OF EVERY MOUNTAINEER
COME ON YOU OLD GRADS, JOIN WITH US YOUNG LADS,
IT’S WEST VIRGINIA NOW WE CHEER!
NOW IS THE TIME, BOYS, TO MAKE A BIG NOISE
NO MATTER WHAT THE PEOPLE SAY,
FOR THERE IS NAUGHT TO FEAR; THE GANG’S ALL HERE,
SO HAIL TO WEST VIRGINIA, HAIL
