To start the 2016-2017 season, the West Virginia University men’s basketball team has been ranked No. 20 in the Preseason AP Top 25 Poll. This adds to the No. 18 ranking the Mountaineers received from the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Other Big 12 schools in the poll were No. 3 Kansas, No. 21 Texas and No. 24 Iowa State.

Outside of the conference, WVU has only one opponent in the preseason top 25. Virginia, who the Mountaineers play on December 3 in Charlottesville, Virginia, is ranked eighth.

The poll is topped by Duke and Kentucky, with defending champions Villanova at No. 4 and Oregon rounding out the top five.

WVU starts its regular season on Friday, November 11, at 7 pm., against Mount St. Mary’s at the newly renovated WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

The WVU women’s basketball team was ranked No. 22 in the 2016-2017 AP Women’s Top 25 Preseason Poll. Big 12 front-runner Baylor was ranked second. Oklahoma also represented the conference in the poll at No. 16. WVU will open their season at home on Saturday, November 12, at 4 p.m., against Charleston Southern.
