At long last, Derrek Pitts will be a West Virginia Mountaineers. Derrek originally committed to Penn State University in late July in front of a crowd at Dem 2 Brothers and a Grill in Charleston. Along with West Virginia and Penn State, Maryland, Florida and Tennessee were being considered.
In front of the home crowd, Pitts chose Penn State, sending many fans in the state of West Virginia into shock. The decision did not deter the coaching staff, who continued to let Pitts know that he was wanted here in the Mountain State.
In early October, after the Mountaineers had started 4-0 and Penn State was going through what looks to be a rebuilding year, Pitts decommitted from the Nittany Lions to “explore my other options”.
Pitts commitment to the Mountaineers gives West Virginia 3 of the states 8 players who committed to FBS schools this year. Pitts stands at 6’-1” and weighs 174 pounds and should given defensive coordinator Tony Gibson another playmaker in his secondary to harrass Big 12 offenses.
