Big 12 Basketball Power Rankings: Sooners Back On Top, WVU Moves Up

West Virginia nearly did something we haven't seen in over 25 years, Oklahoma solidified their spot at the top, and Baylor just keeps winning. Find out how last week's results affected the rankings.

Well, last week in the Big 12 was a lot of fun.

This conference is brutal. The top 4 teams in the conference currently have a combined 59-8 record and HALF the teams have legit Elite 8 aspirations.

Let's get to the rankings:

1. Oklahoma Sooners, 15-1, 4-1

Oklahoma was 2-0 last week with a total margin of victory of four points. Regardless, they are worthy of the #1 spot here and in the national polls.

Last week: Won @ Oklahoma State (74-72) Won Vs. West Virginia (70-68)
This week: @ Iowa State (1/18), @ Baylor (1/23)

2. West Virginia Mountaineers, 15-2, 4-1

As mentioned here, a win on Saturday in Norman would have capped off the best week of regular season basketball in WVU history. Though they weren't able to get the job done against the Sooners, West Virginia proved that they are one of the elite teams in the country.

Last week: Won Vs. Kansas (74-63), Lost @ Oklahoma (70-68)
This week: Vs. Texas (1/20), @ Texas Tech (1/23)

3. Kansas Jayhawks, 15-2, 4-1

The Jayhawks (along with everyone else) had a tough time getting to the Coliseum on Tuesday due to a blizzard. And once they were there, they had a tough time dealing with the Mountaineer press.

Last week: Lost @ West Virginia (74-63), Won Vs. TCU (70-63)
This week: @ Oklahoma State (1/19), Vs. Texas (1/23)

4. Baylor Bears, 14-3, 4-1

The Bears are 4-0 in conference since their blowout loss in Lawrence. Lester Medford hit a three at the buzzer to give Baylor the win on Saturday against Texas Tech.

Last week: Won Vs. TCU (82-54), Won @ Texas Tech (63-60)
This week: Vs. Kansas State (1/20), Vs. Oklahoma (1/23)

5. Iowa State Cyclones, 13-4, 2-3

Iowa State has now lost 3 of their last 5 games, but all three of those defeats (Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas) could have gone the other way. The Cyclones will have plenty of chances to climb back up the rankings, playing Oklahoma this Monday and Kansas next Monday.

Last week: Lost @ Texas (94-91 OT), Won @ Kansas State (76-63)
This week: Vs. Oklahoma (1/18), @ TCU (1/23)

6. Texas Longhorns, 11-6, 3-2

After losing an ugly game at TCU, the Longhorns recovered and took care of business at home last week against Iowa State and Oklahoma State. Texas held a 15 point halftime lead over Oklahoma State but poor shooting in the second half allowed the Cowboys back in the game. The Longhorns have their work cut out for them this week as they travel to Morgantown and Lawrence.

Last week: Won vs. Iowa State (94-91 OT), Won Vs. Oklahoma State (74-69)
This week: @ West Virginia (1/20), @ Kansas (1/23)

7. Kansas State Wildcats, 11-6, 1-4

K-State picked up their first conference win over Texas Tech last Tuesday. Five players scored in double figures in the win over the Red Raiders.

Last week: Won vs. Texas Tech (83-70), Lost Vs. Iowa State (76-63)
This week: @ Baylor (1/20), Vs. Oklahoma State (1/23)

8. Texas Tech Red Raiders, 11-5, 1-4

Texas Tech started off conference play with a win over Texas and has gone 0-4 since. A trip to TCU couldn't come at a better time, especially considering how their last game ended.

Last week: Lost @ Kansas State (83-70), Lost Vs. Baylor (63-60)
This week: @ TCU (1/18), Vs. West Virginia (1/23)

9. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 9-8, 1-4

Just like Tech, Oklahoma State kicked off conference play with a victory and hasn't won since. There are some good signs for the Cowboys, though, mainly from star freshman Jawun Evans. Evans scored 42 in the loss to OU.

Last week: Lost Vs. Oklahoma (74-72), Lost @ Texas (74-69)
This week: Vs. Kansas (1/19), @ Kansas State (1/23)

10. TCU Horned Frogs, 9-8, 1-4

TCU is again at the bottom of the rankings, but they did push Kansas on the road in Lawrence and actually outscored them in the second half.

Last week: Lost @ Baylor (82-54), Lost @ Kansas (70-63)
This week: Vs. Texas Tech (1/18), Vs. Iowa State (1/23)
