The JUCO defensive back is a late addition to the class, but one that could end up being extremely important.

Coffeyville C.C. Safety Toyous Avery has signed with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Defensive back depth was a big target for West Virginia during this recruiting cycle, and with only one scholarship defensive back between the current sophomore and junior classes, scouting the junior college ranks was extremely important to spread the depth around.

New assistant coach Matt Caponi gets the majority of credit on this one, as he went to work immediately and scored the Covington, Georgia native for the Mountaineers. Before verbally committing to the West Virginia, Avery de-committed from Colorado State and turned down an official visit opportunity from Missouri.

The 6'0", 200-pound Avery accumulated 69 tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss, 5 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 5 interceptions and 1 interception touchdown in his one season as a Coffeyville C.C. Red Raven.

Avery had offers from Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas State, Southern Miss and South Alabama and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
