Mocksville, NC kicker Jonn Young is a 6'1", 190-pound 3-star kicker out of Davie County High School. Young committed to West Virginia University in June of 2015, and was recruited by Lonnie Galloway and Joe DeForest.
According to Chris Anderson at 247 Sports, kicking expert Chris Sailer has Young ranked in the top twenty of both kicking and punting. Young has indicated he will perform wherever the coaches want him, but whether that is punting or kicking remains to be determined. Also per Chris Anderson the plan for Young is that he will compete for the starting punting job vacated by Nick O'Toole, and if he cannot earn that spot then will redshirt and compete for the kicking job upon Josh Lambert's departure. Whatever duties Young draws he will be competing against West Virginia natives Bill Kinney and Mike Molina for playing time. Young's high school highlights show good leg strength and accuracy.
