Hamilton High School athlete Jacob Long has signed with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Long is a 6'-0", 180-pound three-star cornerback out of Columbus, Ohio who was born in Huntington, West Virginia. Long held offers from West Virginia University, Purdue University, University of Virginia, and several Mid-American Conference schools. Long had originally committed to Purdue, but switched his verbal commitment to the Mountaineers in the fall of 2015. Long cited the opportunity to compete against high level passing attacks in the Big 12 as one of the reasons for choosing the Mountaineers over the other schools recruiting him.
With the graduation of several key secondary players, and the early departure of Daryl Worley the incoming freshman will have a chance to make an impact if he shows the coaches enough to get on the field. Long shows good speed, athleticism, and the ability punish opposing players with big hits. His aggressiveness should work well in Tony Gibson's 3-3-5 stack defense.
