Tyler J.C. Offensive Tackle Craig Smith was committed to the University of South Florida before switching his commitment to West Virginia University just days before National Signing Day. A huge player at 6'7" and nearly 300 pounds, Smith hails from Tyler, Texas, showing the West Virginia coaches are still trying to get a foot into Texas when they can..

Smith was named a NJCAA All-American as a sophomore alongside another WVU recruit, Justin Crawford. Both visited Morgantown the last weekend of January and Smith made his decision official shortly after. The hiring of Joe Wickline pays off immediately with the commitment of the Tyler, Texas native. Wickline immediately focused on Smith once he joined the West Virginia staff and the hard work paid off with a verbal pledge by Smith after meeting with head coach Dana Holgorsen, Joe Wickline and running backs coach JaJuan Seider.

Smith has three years to play two seasons at West Virginia.
