With the 21st pick of the 7th round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected the speedy wide receiver of the Mountaineers.
Mario Alford came to WVU by way of Georgia Military College and in his first season under Coach Holgorsen's tutelage, Alford caught 27 passes for 552 yards and 2 touchdowns. Like Kevin White, his second season in Morgantown was a breakout for Alford. Mario basically doubled his production, good for 65 catches and 945 yards. His 11 touchdown receptions in 2014 was good enough to tie for the Big 12 lead.
Mario also excelled at the art of kick returning, returning 2 kicks for touchdowns in 2014, including a most memorable return against Alabama in the season opener. His return exploits was also good for 743 yards and an All American status.
Alford was invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis and the speedy receiver ran a disappointing 4.43 second 40 yard dash. When he got a second chance at the WVU Pro Day, his time was more to Alford's reputation, clocking in at 4.27 seconds.
