The Big 12 Conference released their end-of-season awards voted on by league coaches Sunday, as West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins was named coach of the year, the first time the Mountaineer coach was named coach of the year for the Big 12 and fourth time overall during his hall of fame career in college basketball.

Joining Huggins being honored by the Big 12, senior Juwan Staten was named to the All-Big 12 First Team after averaging 14.5 points per game in 31 minutes per game in his final season for West Virginia. Freshman Jevon Carter also was named to the All-Big 12 Defensive team as one of only two freshmen (Myles Turner, Texas) to be named to the team.

Devin Williams, West Virginia’s second leading scorer with 11 points per game, was an honorable mention by the Big 12. You can find the rest of the honors handed out by the Big 12 today, including Player of the Year and the other individual awards with the All-Big 12 teams, on Big12Sports.com.

West Virginia will play as the No. 5 seed in the Big 12 Conference Tournament, squaring off with No. 4 seed Baylor Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Baylor swept the season series from the Mountaineers with an 87-69 win in Morgantown on February 7 and a 78-68 win in Waco on February 28.
