Mountaineer fans had their first opportunity to see the 2015-16 men's basketball squad on Friday night, with West Virginia defeating Glenville State in an exhibition by a score of 114-76.
West Virginia was led in scoring by Daxter Miles with 20 on 7-12 shooting and 7 assists. Jevon Carter had 15, Jonathan Holton 14, Nathan Adrian 13 (on 5-5 shooting), and Esa Ahmad 11 to round out the double-figure scorers. Devin Williams had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Ahmad also added 6 assists.
Glenville State was led by Micah Thomas with 17. Click here for the full box score.
#PressVirginia picked up where they left off last season by forcing 27 Pioneer turnovers. The Mountaineers shot 53.2% overall and 39.4% from three.
There isn't much you can take from a game like this, but mostly everything was positive. West Virginia shot the ball decent, no one got hurt, and Esa Ahmad looks as good as the hype that surrounded him.
The season officially begins next Friday, November 13th against Northern Kentucky. The game tips at 7:00 PM and will be televised locally by WV Media.
